"Can’t You Rock? Can’t Any Of You Rock?"

Got through with the drinking for the day already in the early afternoon with Roy. Ah, Fridays. We went out earlier with Ross to do some clothes shopping for him. After the band outing Roy and I hung out and I'm back on the net surfing for bands to play with on tour.

So here are some of the cities I'm looking for info on. If anyone's got any suggestions on bands/clubs in these places we would TREMENDOUSLY appreciate it.

Columbia, SC (just bands, got the club)
Atlanta/Athens, GA
Nashville, TN
St. Louis/Springfield, MO
Chicago, IL
Cleveland, OH
Philadelphia, PA

I'll go back to my search now. Stay warm if you're traveling out in tonight's snow (or wherever you are tonight)..

Cheers,

Jen

A Bottle Of Wine

A bottle of wine is good. It feels good. It tastes good. It keeps you company. And it's keeping me company tonight while I stare into this screen wistfully.

I'm thinking about the tour right now. Probably because I'm working on it as I write this. Cities are on my mind... St. Louis, Fairfax, Cleveland etc...

I'm searching for rock n roll in these cities tonight on the space. Simpsons on in the background. I feel like Lisa tonight. Henry plods away at the website in the background.

What keeps you company tonight?

Today, I picked up my amp. It's been fixed. It made this horrible humming noise. And now I feel relieved.

See you all very soon...

Dante’s (disco) Inferno

I'm back on the sauce. Did I say "sauce"? I meant "coffee". I went for two weeks without a cup in the morning, and it's been awful; I felt like the living dead. I still feel like the living dead, except I'm awake now. Sweet lady caffeine, how you tempt me so.

It's crunch time with the album. We're awaiting the shipment of CDs. It's all very exciting, but it's driving me absolutely crazy, to the point of exhaustion. I'll live, though. This happens all the time, and I'm very anxious to get the final product in my hands. Booking for the tour is going fairly well, though. Annie and Jen have been kicking butt. So far we've confirmed dates all the way to Memphis, and Columbia, SC is all set as of Tuesday. We just need to figure the way back home out. Not that I would have a huge problem being stuck in Tennessee, it's just that I keep all my stuff in Boston. Convenience, yea? Should be a fun trip, at any rate. This is our first time out that far, so if you've got anyone you know from these parts spread the word! I'll post a thingie thing with all the dates below. Thingie.

Finished another book yesterday. I don't know if I mentioned it here or not (and I'm too lazy to check if I did), but I'm trying to pull off 50 books this year, preferably ones I haven't read yet. Demain (this is book 7/50) was really good and didn't disappoint. I read Siddhartha when I was 17 and loved it, and Demian didn't fall short. Don't know what I should move onto next.. I'm seriously thinking of reading Harry Potter, finally (I don't wanna hear old sad bastard music, Barry, I just want something I can ignore). You know, now that all the hubbub has died down and I can read it with less shame. At home. In private.

I was going to try and tackle Dante's Inferno, but after Demain I'm overloaded on philosophical conceits for the time being.

Some crazy shit going in the world, eh? It'll be interesting to see how this thing in Kosovo plays out.

Cheers,
Henry "One Kudos" Nerdlinger

Rip Off

Never mind those $300 I mentioned in the last blog. It's an advance against your next year's refund. How does this help? What happens next year and what if you owe? Ugh...

In better news, Henry and I saw U23D last night. Every rock show should be this way. Wow, no words really, but with a 65 foot Bono you don't really need any. Truly tremendous. Check it out.

Cheers,

Jen

Saturday Night’s All Right For Burning

Another day of band errands. After forcing myself to do laundry Henry and I dropped by Roy's house to drop off flyers and posters for the CD releae show at Great Scott (on March 20!!). Also, dropped off some blank DVDs for him to burn all the studio footage along with songs filmed during our set at Scamper's Last Waltz.

After hanging out with Roy we went off for a slice and then to Staples to buy some CD-Rs. Annie's going to SXSW and we're burning CDs samplers for her to take, so needless to say I spent the rest of the day doing that in fact I'm still doing that (only 12 more to go!). Henry's been working on some new button and t-shirt designs. March will be fun albeit busy not to mention expensiv-o.

Speaking of, aren't we supposed to be getting $300 checks from the government? When's that happening? I hope they go alphabetically. No offense to the X, Y, Zs out there. :)

Cheers,

Jen

Muddling On A Friday Night

Lovely weather today. Finally. I'm sitting here burning cds and checking out clubs and bands in different cities that we'll be hitting on the tour. We've been real busy around here getting things together in time for March and we're eagerly anticipating the arrival of these cds.

Oh, on a seperate note I finished Norman Mailer's "The Naked And The Dead" tonight. All seven hundred and twenty-one pages of it! Phew! I feel accomplished. It was pretty good. I got a little bored in some bits, but there were some really moving compassionate scenes in it that made it worth while. Lots of interesting ideas in it as well. I'd recommend it at any rate. He was quite an intelligent dude.

Well, I haven't got much for you. Just wanted to say 'hello'.

Cheers,

Jen

Ice to see you: Burlington, VT tonight has been postponed

Hey everybody,

So the subject line says it all, pretty much. We were ready to go tonight, but the roads were terrible. We would've loved to play tonight, but doing so just may have resulted in us not playing any other shows. We want to live to play more of those as well.

Anyway, we absolutely hate canceling shows (this is only the third time it's ever happened in all 5 or 6 years that we've been out playing shows). We'll definitely be rescheduling at Nectar's at a later date.. we'll keep youse people posted.

Ethan Snyder Project and Brother Through Glass will still be performing tonight.

Seriously, today's weather was/is absolutely horrid and the commute from work today sucked. I don't know how long I was on that bus, but I certainly got a lot of reading done.

Stay warm,
Henry

More To Come In The Tumult

Hey, I want to give a great big thanks to Rick Roth for having us on Friday at the Middle East corner for the Students For A Free Tibet benefit. Another thanks should go out to you fabulous people who came out to support this very worthy scene. We had a really fun time squeezing on to that stage and giving a soundtrack to Tibet for 40 minutes. Rick also gave me a Rangzen bracelet which I'm quite happy about. :)

We'll be putting up photos from the gig soon.

This Wednesday we'll be in Burlington, VT @ Nectar's. We've never played in Burlington before, so if you've got friends send them down! We're on at 9pm.

More dates are coming in March/April for the Fan The Fury tour (yes that's the name of the album as well). Check out some of the dates already booked including Boston and New York CD Release Parties.

Cheers,

Jen

If enough have our backs to the wall

As Jen mentioned in a previous blog, we'll be playing a special acoustic show this Friday. Why so special? It's a benefit for Students For a Free Tibet.

With this year's Olympics being held in Beijing, the group has organized a campaign to bring awareness to the human rights abuses in China leading up to the Olympic Games.

There's a good article on this show in the Boston Herald that explains the deal much better than I, so check it out: http://news.bostonherald.com/entertainment/music/general/view.bg?articleid=1071542&srvc=home&position=recent

Let's not kid ourselves. It's easy for things like this to turn into a clichéd cause célèbre (look at that, and I don't even know French!), especially when you consider that Tibet has been occupied by the Chinese since 1950. But this is still a pretty big deal when you've got the Chinese government still pulling the kind of crap they do on people. It's unacceptable.

It's easy to understand the feeling of helplessness in something this large, but there are things you can do to help. For a list of things as simple as texting "teamtibet" to 67463 or creating your own video, visit www.beijingweareready.com to see how you can help.

I've gotta run, but the info for the show and some other stuff you should check out are below. Hope you all can make it!

Cheers,
Henry

The Superest Tuesday of them all.

Super Tuesday is finally upon us, so if you're in one of the 24 states voting today you should do so.

If you're having trouble finding a polling place, try here to find it: http://www.vote411.org/pollingplacebystate.php

FYI, neither myself nor The International Aloud Corp, LLC or its subsidiaries (Aloud Industries, Aloud Chemical Corp., or Penthouse Leather Shop Inc.) is publicly endorsing anyone. I write that not because I think my opinion means anything (I don't), but because people tend to read into things.

Who you decide to vote for is, quite frankly, none of our business.

On that note, if one more person asks me if I'm going to "Ba-rock the vote today, bro", I swear I'm going to pop you.

Vote early, vote often,
Henry

We’ll be waltzing with Scamper for the last time tonight

Come down to the Middle East Downstairs. It's going to be special. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You may even want to join in on the man-hugs. Scamper's going on "indefinite hiatus" after tonight, which is probably a clever way of saying "we're breaking up, unless someone throws a lot of money at us to play again".

Like this:

Since we have to wait at least 6 more years for this to happen, your best bet is to come to the show tonight and give the boys a proper sendoff.

We're on at 9pm, followed by Harris (awesome) and Baker (awesome) before the scampy little scamps do their thing. Show up early, cos this is liable to sell out. And we want you there to watch us play, too.

What? I'm just sayin'...

See ya tonight!

Cheers,
Henry

Show me that smile again

It's really starting to hit me that after Saturday night, Scamper will only exist in our memories.

I was just having a conversation with a friend of mine about bands in the Boston scene that have petered out (in particular, about another band whom we felt we had a tight bond with). It's the natural course of things, I suppose, and at least Scamper is not ending with the all-too-common acrimony and gossip (unless one considers erotic German novels "acrimonious"). But still, I'm really bummed about it. We've been friends with those guys for a long time. It's hard enough doing what we all do, this silly music thing.

Let's not kid ourselves, in this line of work there are vampires at every level trying to drain you of anything you've got. Sometimes it's high-level executives, sometimes low-level con artists, sometimes it's even fellow brothers-in-arms. So when you do find people you share a kinship with and a genuine friendship, it's something very special. When they bow out of the race (race for what, I don't know) and choose to live the life of mortals, it's a little sad.

Except for Brendan, who instead of living the life of a mortal will live the life of Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Anyway, whether it was great advice or a simple mention on the radio (or sexually harassing our rhythm section) the Scamper boys have always been around to give us a hand since our tumultuous early days.

So here's to them.. Viva El Scamper.

And since you've had enough free time to read this blog, here's where you can spend the rest of it:
