MySpace bands... I'm putting you on notice (or, Beware the Ides of March)
Okay, it's time for me to say this to you, bands. Enough is enough.
Spamming me, spamming this account, and spamming people will not get you more fans. I don't care what people do or don't do with their MySpace accounts. We're set up here to screen comments and things like this before they even make it onto our page. To be clear, I'm not talking to bands/musicians/manufacturing companies that take time to add people, make friends, send out invites .. networking, essentially. I'm talking to those of you who paid 20 bucks to get one of those robot programs that essentially spams everyone and a half on MySpace. I know being in a band is hard, and it's a constant daily struggle to get people's ears pointed your way. However, folks at large (and I'm lumping myself in there) are BOM-BAR-DED day in and day out with advertising, marketing, gimmicks, scams, popups, and spam. Seeing one of your "Hey! I noticed you were a fan of _____! Check this out!" makes me cringe and never want to listen to or watch your band ever. It's even slightly depressing. Why? Because it shows you don't care. It's probably an irrational response, because you could very well be the greatest ever in the history of music. But I guarantee you everyone is thinking the same thing: DELETE. The majority of people will give you the same attention they give to a McDonald's commercial. This is not for my benefit. Like I said, we screen comments, so in that sense I don't really care what you do. But if you continue with these shenanigans, you would be doing a disservice to yourselves and in a broader sense other bands and musicians that use MySpace without resorting to spam. Personally, I would rather see a friend request than some obviously mail-merged message in my inbox about your next single. For god's sake, connect with people. Or else, your next default MySpace pic may look like this: You are officially on notice. Cheers, Henry
