Show me that smile again

It's really starting to hit me that after Saturday night, Scamper will only exist in our memories.

I was just having a conversation with a friend of mine about bands in the Boston scene that have petered out (in particular, about another band whom we felt we had a tight bond with). It's the natural course of things, I suppose, and at least Scamper is not ending with the all-too-common acrimony and gossip (unless one considers erotic German novels "acrimonious"). But still, I'm really bummed about it. We've been friends with those guys for a long time. It's hard enough doing what we all do, this silly music thing.

Let's not kid ourselves, in this line of work there are vampires at every level trying to drain you of anything you've got. Sometimes it's high-level executives, sometimes low-level con artists, sometimes it's even fellow brothers-in-arms. So when you do find people you share a kinship with and a genuine friendship, it's something very special. When they bow out of the race (race for what, I don't know) and choose to live the life of mortals, it's a little sad.

Except for Brendan, who instead of living the life of a mortal will live the life of Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Anyway, whether it was great advice or a simple mention on the radio (or sexually harassing our rhythm section) the Scamper boys have always been around to give us a hand since our tumultuous early days.

So here's to them.. Viva El Scamper.

And since you've had enough free time to read this blog, here's where you can spend the rest of it:
