Time Change for Wednesday's Gig

Heyo, heard yesturday that tomorrow's show is being pushed earlier. So instead of going on at 10:30 we are now going on at 10:15 and the entire show is starting at 8:45. Even better for a Wednesday night, eh?

11/29 CAMBRIDGE, MA : Middle East Upstairs
472 Massachusetts Ave (Central Square)
w. Robbers on High Street (11:00), Aloud (10:15) the Shills (9:30), The Televangelist and the Architect (8:45pm)

If you haven't got tickets yet I would recommend just getting them at the Middle East Box Office. They'll be a little cheaper in advance ($10 vs. $12).

Can't wait to see you there!

Cheers,

Jen

Had A Good Holiday?

Hope those of you who celebrated Thanksgiving had a rather nice one. Thought we'd share some of our holiday with you. I think I might have mentioned that I went down to Raleigh, NC to spend it with my folks. Henry, Roy, and my sister joined me there for the Turkey meal. It also possible that Henry, Roy, and myself may have discovered a love for Guitar Hero II. Observe...

I would recommend a bottle of wine to make playing more fun. That's Roy Blaze approved.

After all the fun and pie we all drove back up the East Coast and are back home preparing for Wednesday's gig with Robbers on High Street.

I may also recommend buying tickets for Wednesday's show if you live here in Beantown. Or not. Take a plane.

Cheers,

Jen

Musicnation

Everyone likes to vote and feel important, no? Well we'd like to think that the Aloud camp we offer such opportunities. So here's another one.

Go check out our video for Beaches at Musicnation.com.

View it there and tell your friends to check it out there too!! The more views we get the more we'll get the chance to be most viewed on the site and have a chance at THREE Epic records contracts they're giving away with this! So please check out the Beaches video here, leave a comment, and pass the message along to your friends.

Thanks in advance... and speaking of advance if you need tickets to our show at the Middle East Upstairs next week go here. (I know I've been mentioning this quite a bit, but really it's because I'd love to have you there :), really.)

Cheers,

Jen

Friday night arrives without a suitcase

There's four sampler tracks of the "new" Beatles Love album. I'm really digging it, and I'm really overwhelmed by it. Lady Madonna, with Hey Bulldog somehow fitting over it and Eric Clapton's solo from While My Guitar Gently Weeps playing as well. Somehow it all fits together nicely. Speaking of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, the demo version from Anthology 3 is on there now with strings. Fucking gorgeous. Can't stop listening to it. I love that band. When it comes to music, whenever I'm lost that band is my center. Like being wrapped up in your favorite blanket.

My blanket of the moment happens to be Sgt. Pepper.

You can listen to the four sampler tracks here:http://www.nme.com/mediaPlayer&function=right&playlist_id=745&unsigned=

And oddly enough, my three favorite bands of all time are putting out records of rehashed material on the same day. Oasis (Stop the Clocks) and U2 (U218) are putting out Best Of's, as well as the fabs with Love. I'm kinda happy about the Oasis best of, even though there are absolutely no new songs on it. Conversely, I'm disappointed about the U2 best of, even though there are two new songs on it. I can understand that it's supposed to coincide with their Beatles Anthology-esque autobiography, but they've already got two (count 'em) Best Of's already out there (one of them was put out just three, four years ago). What the hell, guys?

Gonna go to the Oasis screening tomorrow at the Kendall for Lord Don't Slow Me Down. Very excited about that. I love band-on-the-road type documentaries.

Finally saw Borat tonight. It was excellent, but I've seen the Borat skits on Ali G for a while. Not to take away from the movie, but I think the skits were better. All the same, I'd recommend the movie to everyone I know. Especially if you won't get it. There's something great about that humor, catching people unawares and on camera.

Finally got around to working on a demo. That makes me happy.

Anything else?

Why, yes:

Lord Don't Slow Me Down

A few things:
  • Anyone who's into Oasis (or band documentaries) should check this out. Free screenings to the new docu, just email an RSVP. If anyone's going to the Boston (but really, Cambridge) screening hit me up. (Trailer is here if you're curious: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xUUZb5NdwY ).
  • Speaking of trailers, color me nerd (NERD!), but the new Spider-Man movie looks like it's going to kick ass. (Shh... the leaked trailer with Venom is here, for fellow nerdboys. Quickly, before it's taken down.)
  • This blog isn't going very well, is it?
I made the mistake today (among other mistakes) of taking a nap around 8pm. Woke up at 1am, haven't been able to sleep since. Feels like I've been wearing myself down lately, I should probably cool it. Go vegetarian (yea, right), try some transcendental meditation or something trendy-yet-probably-helpful like that. Perhaps do a better job of keeping in touch with my family. Feels like I haven't spoken to them at all in months. This is untrue, of course— I'm just absolutely horrible when it comes to returning anyone's phonecalls. Not being constantly on the road is killing me. I might have a touch of cabin fever.

I had way too much fun this weekend, though. This includes spending the hours of 12pm-8pm on Saturday with Roy playing Gears of War (NERD!).

Been reading Johnny Cash's autobiography, courtesy of Kris. It's good stuff, I highly recommend it.

But not the same way I recommended the new Killers album. Turns out it didn't take, and it's not all that great. A couple of good songs on there, and my opinion on what a great song When You Were Young hasn't changed. But the rest feels like they tried too hard and overshot. Best comment on the album was from Pitchfork (yea, yea, I know): " aiming for Springsteen and missing even slightly results in Meat Loaf". I don't hate the album though, and I suppose they get points for trying to do something outside of their comfort zone. Or not. What the hell do I know? I'm listening to it now anyway. How's that for ya? (NERD!)

Also, my admission that this album basically sucks should not indicate my support for the Bravery. You hear me Roy? THERE WILL BE A RUCKUS. AND FISTICUFFS.

Blogging isn't helping me sleep, and I've gotta be up in about three hours. Jay-sus. But it's all good. The thought of calling out of work tomorrow is crossing my mind, but I mustn't (responsibility and whatnot). Already taking a day off for the holiday this week. Roy, Jen's sister Ale, and myself are headed down to North Carolina to meet up with Jen this Wednesday. Something like a 14 hour drive. Should be fun. Or absolutely horrible.

Oh right, I must do the band thing and plug the hell out of our show on the 29th.

Robbers on High Street, the Shills, and The Televangelist and the Architect. I've been hearing some noise about the Shills lately, all good. Should be a good time. Middle East Upstairs. The show's 18+, and if you buy tickets at the Middle East box office you save a little money. Get your tickets here, if Ticketbastard is your thing:
http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/01003D4DAE10AC96?artistid=961088&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=60

I'm heading down to Central Square at some point early this week, so if anyone wants me to get tickets for them, let me know and we'll work something out.

My pal Beca (I've special permission to call her Becky) took a shitload of photos at the Bill's show. Those should be up and about as soon as we can sort through them all. When I say shitload, I mean it. Something like 650 photos, whittled down to 230, which needs to be brought down to something reasonable. Like.... 12. A bunch of them were taken rapidly in sequence, so it almost looks like a movie. I made a little animation of it, but the thing's like 85 MB. So... no. (NERD!)

Cheers,
Henry

I write bloggings (or, the Can You Hear Me Now? blog)

Now that we've gotten this whole voting mess out of the way, I can write about the video shoot a couple of weeks ago.

So how was it?

Well, it was loads work that happened to be fun, and I can't believe how much we got done so quickly. I'll probably be vague with a lot of this so I don't spoil the whole damn thing, but...

We were working with Tom Fitzgerald again, who did a wonderful job on Beaches. We decided to go with something a little different and go in the opposite direction from the Beaches video. No performances or anything, just a concept and a storyline for the video. That was great because it gave us freedom to get really surreal with it. And since none of us were obligated to actually be in the video, we could fuck around on the set and not really have to work. HA!

Most of that burden was carried by our friend Crystal Lisbon. As luck would have it, she's a professional actress (and a good one at that).

Also some quick shout outs (shout outs?) to Liz (our album cover girl), Greg Baldi (the man in the wig), Brandon (with the hat), and of course.. Wyman, the best ticker-scroller this side of Allston.

Gotta run to practice now, but here's some photos! Everyone likes pretty pictures yes? Yes?

Cheers,
Henry

Let's not forget... the General Erection

Hey everyone, today's election day.

Whatever the hell your beliefs and opinions are, don't forget to vote.

Don't know where your polling place is? Click here: http://www.vote411.org/pollingplacebystate.php?ms=rtv_index.
Depending on your state you can get a sample ballot to know just what the hell your voting for.

Project Vote Smart www.vote-smart.org
It's a really good resource to look at voting records and such. Might have to try the link a few times, since traffic might be a little high today.

Good luck.. Godspeed.. Rock n' roll,
Henry

Back In the Habit.

You might have noticed from our new photo that we've got a gig coming up this week. After hibernating with new songs for a month we're back out in Boston for FNX's New England Product Spolight on Nov. 10 at Bill's Bar. The Break Mission will open at 10pm, with us on at 11pm, and Violet Nine headlines at Midnight.

Here's a little visual for you...

This show will be streaming as well (as you can see at the bottom of the flyer) at banddigs.com.

You might hear some new tunes at this show... If you can't make it to this one fear not... We've still got this show at the end of the month up our sleeves...

Buy tickets for our support slot with Robbers On High Street here or in person at the Middle East Box Office..

We'll have another tune from Leave Your Light On on the MySpace player soon...

Cheers,

Jen

P.S. Video for Can You Hear Me Now? went fantastic!! Tom is editing as we speak. Henry should have a blog up with some photos soon.
